Bus services have been designed to maximise the benefits of the bus-only roadway, as well as the bus lanes on existing roads. The T-way acts as the centre piece to provide a high frequency spine for bus services in the north west. All bus services in the T-way catchment area either travel on the T-way or provide links with buses that travel on the T-way.
Travel data has shown that most people in the T-way catchment area travel within this catchment for work, education and other journeys. Whilst bus services have also been enhanced for Sydney CBD services, the focus has been on providing local links for local people.
Bus route consultation outcomes
The Ministry of Transport and the bus operators Hillsbus and Busways carried out extensive stakeholder and community consultation to help design the network.
A brochure was sent to over 100,000 homes in the T-way catchment area. The brochure included a proposed bus network map and an overview of the proposed changes to each suburb.
In addition to the mail out of the brochure, consultation activities also included:
Posters on buses.
Information in libraries and at councils.
Presentations to Councils, University of Western Sydney, Westmead Hospital and other major businesses in the area.
Staffed displays in shopping centres.
Letters to schools.
There were approximately 1,000 responses received and all feedback was considered during the preparation of the final bus network design.
Listed below are some examples of the changes made to the bus network design, as a result of stakeholder and community feedback:
Residents raised concerns for school children due to buses using Redden Drive, Diana Avenue and York Road. The bus services were redesigned in this area as a result of this feedback.
Passengers raised the need for an end-to-end service on the T-way. The final network design now includes the T65 bus, which runs along the entire length of the T-way, between the new Rouse Hill town centre (when completed) and Parramatta.
Passengers raised concerns about the removal of services between Seven Hills Station and Kings Langley/Norwest Business Park/Bella Vista/ Crestwood. These routes have been reinstated as a direct result of consultation.
Passengers raised concerns about the removal of the link for Winston Hills to Blacktown and Macquarie. This link has been reinstated as a direct result of consultation.
Passengers requested a link between Kellyville Ridge and Castle Hill. This link has been created as a direct result of consultation.
